Copenhagen, Nordhavn

If you’re wondering where locals go swimming in Copenhagen, you’re in the right place. As a local who has braved the chilly waters year-round (yes, even with ice!), I can tell you all about swimming in the Danish capital.

So, grab your swimming costume and get ready to jump into some of Copenhagen’s best swimming spots. Whether you’re a seasoned swimmer or just looking for a refreshing dip, there are plenty of places for you to check out.

Is it Legal to Swim in Copenhagen?

Yes, it’s legal to swim in Copenhagen, but only in designated zones like the harbor baths, where some have changing rooms and other facilities.

However, locals often swim everywhere in the harbor canals, and I’ve never actually heard of anyone getting a fine.

Just be careful with the circling canal tours and boats going around to ensure your safety.

Also, keep an eye on the flags by the dipping zones. If there’s a red sign you should not jump in as the canals are polluted and unsafe.

Now that you know it’s not legal to swim everywhere in the Copenhagen canals, I’ve provided a map so you can see my favorite and recommended spots around the city. I’m sure there’ll be some harbour baths close to you!

When Is the Best Time To Go Swimming?

The best time to go for a dip is during the summer months, from June to August when the weather is warm and the water temperature is comfortable.

The harbour baths and outdoor pools are bustling with activity, and the long daylight hours make it perfect for a refreshing dip anytime.

However, brave locals swim year-round, even in winter!
